WILLOW GROVE — Interboro extended its win streak to three Monday night at Upper Moreland in a 34-7 victory over the Golden Bears.

The Buccaneers started early in taking down Upper Moreland.

After the Buccaneers deferred the coin toss and gave Upper Moreland the first possession of the game, Golden Bears junior quarterback Robert Knox fumbled on a quarterback keeper, giving Interboro the ball.

While deferring the coin toss ended up working in Interboro’s favor, head coach Steve Lennox didn’t do it because he though Upper Moreland’s offense was weak.

“We like to get the defense on first and get hit,” Lennox said. “Then we can see what’s going on. I like to have the ball to start the second half.”

Four plays later, junior halfback Austin Quiah ran the ball in the end zone for one of his three rushing touchdowns of the night.

“My teammates were blocking for me a lot and it opened up holes so I could get the touchdowns,” Quiah said.

But Qunah wasn’t finished. Three minutes after his first TD, Quiah scored his second rushing touchdown of the game to put the score at 14-0. It was an impressive showing for the junior running back, who finished with 110 yards on the ground in 16 carries. Considering this is Quiah’s first year playing football, his head coach was pleased with his performance.

“He’s getting better every day or every week,” Lennox said. “We hope to build and build and hopefully he gets better.”

The only lackluster part of the game for Interboro was its punting, which resulted in the lone Upper Moreland score of the contest. A 14-yard punt in the middle of the second quarter gave the Golden Bears excellent field position and they took advantage of it.

Sophomore quarterback Charlie Hooker found senior running back Kenny Register for a 15-yard touchdown reception to put the score at 14-7.

Interboro then scored 20 unanswered points on route to its dominating win.

Monday was a story of teams on two different ends of the spectrum. The 34-7 victory put Interboro’s record at 3-1 amid a three-game winning streak. Upper Moreland, on the other hand, is 0-4 and reeling.
